Crestone is known as an auspicious gathering place for several inter- faith centers, each having its own emphasis yet all offering unique  spiritual insight and nourishment to all who visit.

Haidakhandi Universal Ashram and Maha Lakhsmi Temple dedicated to Herakhan Babaji and the Sacred Mother.

Vajra Vidya’s Tashi Gomang Stupa, containing precious relics of saints from Tibetan Buddhist.

Shumei International Institute offering Jyorei healing, daily Sampai devotionals, natural agriculture garden and Shumei art gallery tours.

Yeshe Rangsal Stupa of Enlightenment presently under the venerable Tsoknyi Rimpoche’s custodianship.

Nada Hermitage, a center attracting those attuned to the Catholic Carmelite lineage.

Dharma Ocean, teaching embodied spirituality with emphasis on practice for householders.

Yeshe Korlo, the Gangteng Rinpoche, the High Lama of Bhutan’s center.

Mt. Blanca, known to the Navajos as Sisnaajini or White Shell Mountain, is the Holy Eastern Mountain and  sacred pilgrimage site for the Navajo and Native Pueblo peoples.

Hiking

Our community is nestled against the sacred Sangre de Cristo Mountains with magical trailheads leading into the Sangres.

Some of the most beautiful hiking trails include North Crestone Trail, South Crestone Trail, Willow Creek Trail, and Liberty Hiking Trail.  

The splendor of a high mountain lake awaits the arduous hiker found at the end of several of these mountain trails. 

 

Hot Springs

A number of hot springs in the area surface from deep subterranean geothermal zones.  These hot springs listed in the order from closest to (30 miles) to those found farthest (130 miles) from Crestone are as follows:

The closest Joyful Journey Hot Springs, if a favorite spot of fellow yogi’s during teacher training It’s the perfects spot to relax and nourish your body from all the yoga!

The Crestone area provides a great array of miraculous vistas, unique flora and an abundance of fauna for all those who love nature.  

These natural wonders include clear night skies where full moon shines like a pendant on the starry cloak of the Milky Way.

The picture worthy Sangre De Cristo Mountains, sometimes seem to turn blood red during special sunsets.  

The San Luis Valley, also known as The Bloodless Valley, forced warring tribes to lay down their weapons whenever they entered the energy field of this mysterious mountain landscape

The Great Sand Dunes, presents a stark contrast juxtaposed against mountain, valley, and open sky.  

Year-round Crestone, Willow, Cottonwood and Spanish Creeks  flow down the Sangre and eventually disappear underneath the valley floor.  

Animals found in our area include fox, coyote, elk, deer, bobcat, eagles, hawks, bats, hummingbirds, owl, black bear, porcupine, Sandhill crane, and an occasional mountain lion.  

Cottonwood, Aspen, Juniper, Pinon Pine, Fir and Blue Spruce decorate one’s ascent through the foothills of the Crestone area leading up to the majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
